Numerous single story Bungalow Homes were built throughout Evanston and all the North Shore suburbs in the first half of the 20th century. As housing expectations evolved, many contemporary owners of these Bungalows opted to expand by building either a full or partial second floor. Over the past thirty years, our firm has solved this problem in a variety of ways. This project is an example of one such solution in which a second floor with three bedrooms & two baths was added to a one story brick bungalow. A new ornamental oak stair connects Basement, First Floor & Second Floor providing a spatial connection for the new two story residence. The small existing Kitchen was expanded by demolishing an old pantry & narrow back stair, adding this space into the newly renovated Kitchen which flows directly off the original Dining Room. A new Mud Room takes the place of the old back porch and provides a second entry for the family, adjacent to the detached Garage.
