Deck & Trellis on a Victorian Home

While renovating a 19th Century Victorian for one of our clients, they requested we add a deck to give them some outdoor space.  The problem was, they had a very small backyard but a huge side yard.  The solution was to locate the deck down the side of the house in this generous side yard.  This allowed access to the deck from both the Kitchen and Family Room.   A louvered cedar wall provides privacy from the adjoining neighbors while an open trellis ceiling encloses the deck space from above.  The design allows light & air to pass through.  The final design shows how a modern cedar deck can coexist with the Victorian architecture of an existing residence in a contextual manner.
