Evanston Arts & Crafts Landmark

Designed by George Maher in 1911, this landmark residence is situated on a one-acre lot in the center of Evanston which has never been subdivided, a fate suffered by many other Mansions from the same era.   One of Chicago’s most prominent Investment Bankers’s purchased the home for his family in the later part of the 20th Century and, along with his equally accomplished wife, they retained our firm to design several renovations spanning a period of 20 years.  Improvements included a large Addition with a Family Room, Breakfast Room, Garden Room, a modern Kitchen & exterior terraces.  Later, we created an Attic Guest Suite and built a 2nd Floor above the existing detached brick Garage which serves as a Caretaker’s Apartment.  The final result is a classic landmark home, updated for modern living while preserving its original character, all looking out over magnificent private gardens & grounds.
